Funny How Time Slips Away

Many of you know the title as the classic remake Elvis did of the famous song by Willie Nelson. You know him as the King of Rock-n-Roll--now get to know Elvis as an avid watch collector. Elvis Presley began his watch collecting in April 1956 when, after his first Las Vegas appearance, he was presented with an $800 diamond-studded watch by casino boss Frank William. Elvis always had a love of watches, but he never expected such a tremendous gift and proceeded to bombard Frank Williams with thank you letters.

Any photograph you see of Elvis, any movie--you are sure to spy a distinctive model that reflects not only him but the character he portrayed if the photo was taken on set. Take for instance his notable Hamilton Ventura, which is the luxury watch that became synonymous with the King of Rock-n-Roll, which he began wearing in 1961.

The arrowhead-shaped dial was the first of its kind, the world`s very first electrical, battery-powered watch. This watch was presented to Elvis on the set of his 1961 film Blue Hawaii and he soon took to wearing the timepiece offset as well as on. The actual timepiece resides in the historic collection of Hamilton.
